Quiz Bowl.Quiz Bowl is a quiz-based competition that tests players on a wide variety of academic subjects. The game is played with a lock-out buzzer system, going head-to-head to answer as many questions and gain as many points as possible.
Toss Up RoundThe prompter reads out a question for both teams. Each team member listens to the question and buzzes in when they know it. The first to buzz in and get it right scores points for their team.
Bonus RoundOnce a team has answered a correct question, they then get a bonus question. This question is not competition based, as the other team can't answer. The prompter gives the team a question and they can work together to answer.
LayoutThere are 10 questions in the first half of the game, a very brief break to make sure the scores are correct, and then a second 10 question round. The team with the most points at the end of the two rounds win.
Tournament LayoutQuiz Bowl regularly has tournaments throughout the entire country. These tournaments last all day and last multiple rounds and brackets. Typically, a school will bring one or two teams, and there are typically between 10 and 20 schools in a tournament. All these teams are bracketed together and pitted against one another.
Winning at TournamentsWhen someone wins a game at a tournament, they move on to a play off bracket. There are typically prizes for individual performance and for the teams too. If you do well enough in a couple tournament, you get to Nationals.
